Final Fantasy Versus Not Cancelled

It’s all secrets and lies.

Last week we brought you the news that Final Fantasy Versus had been cancelled. Fortunately, as is the case when dealing with the immense power of the internet, rumours can turn out to be a steaming pile of festering cow dung.

In the case of Final Fantasy Versus, Square Enix’s Yoichi Wada took to Twitter to cast dispel on these vile rumours.

“There’s someone making a false rumour that Versus was cancelled,” he said. “Haha… just a minute ago, the regular Versus meeting ended. If you saw the presentation of the city, it’d knock you off your feet – lol.”

It’s the most information we’ve got on Final Fantasy Versus in ages. The game was initially announced in 2006, and we’ve seen hardly any of it whatsoever since then. The rumours about the game’s demise seemed particularly prevalent simply because of the severe lack of communication, but we really must remember that certain other games – such as Half Life 3 – haven’t had anything said about them for years either.

The fact that Yoichi says that regular Final Fantasy Versus meetings are taking place is certainly good news, and I’m definitely excited to see what they’ve done with this city he’s talking about.

Square Enix has also been teasing they’ve got something Final Fantasy XIII related to reveal soon, so that could well allude to Final Fantasy Versus as it was initially part of the Fabula Nova Crystallis, a series of games set to take place inside the Final Fantasy XIII universe.

Either that, or it’s Final Fantasy XIII-3.
