Oddworld: Abe’s Odyssey Remake Announced

Oddworld: Abe’s Odyssey Remake Announced

Old Stitch-Lips is coming back for round two.

If there’s one franchise I’ll always remember, it’s Oddworld. I spent many an hour farting on Mudokons, slapping them in the face, possessing people and then telling them to follow me as a child, and the game will always hold a special place in my nostalgic heart.

I’ve been quietly hoping for an HD remake of the game for some time now (especially after Stranger’s Wrath was done), and today my desires were sated.

Oddworld Inhabitants, the good people behind the original game, announced via their official Facebook page that they’re totally rebooting Oddworld: Abe’s Odyssey.  This is no mere HD remake – they’re literally rebuilding the game from scratch for the modern generation, bringing Abe to life like never before.

The official announcement reads:

“Ok so here’s the skinny on “Oddworld: Abe’s Oddysee”…

We decided to reboot it, not just an HD update to the original PS1 title, this is a NEW game. It will be getting it’s first public showing LATER this year, with a release date of NEXT summer (2013).”

If you’ve never played the original game, nor seen it (shame on you) Abe was a revolutionary interactive 2D platformer that was absolutely huge back in the 90’s. Taking the part of Abe, an enslaved creature known as a Mudokon, you set out on an epic quest to free your chums, solve puzzles and make things explode with your cool abilites. Oh yeah, you could also fart. Still not sure why, but it was great.
