Mass Effect 3 Extended Cut Releasing Next Week

Mass Effect 3 Extended Cut Releasing Next Week

Need to know what happened to Shepard? You’ll soon be able to find out.

That’s right ladies and gents, after months of waiting to find out exactly what the ending of Mass Effect 3 means, Bioware has finally lifted the lid on the official release date of the Mass Effect 3 Extended Cut DLC.

Most importantly, Mass Effect 3 Extended Cut will be a free download, available simultaneously for PC, Xbox 360 and PS3. The official release date of the Extended Cut is June 26th for North America, while – damn you yanks – us Europeans will have to wait until July 4th if you’ve got Mass Effect 3 on PS3.

Bioware’s also been kind enough to expand further on what we can expect in the DLC pack in a post on their site.

Mass Effect 3 Extended Cut: What You Need to Know

“The Mass Effect 3 Extended Cut expands on the endings of Mass Effect 3 through additional scenes and epilogue sequences. It provides more of the answers and closure that players have been asking for. It gives a sense of what the future holds as a result of the decisions made throughout the series. And it shows greater detail in the successes or failures based on how players achieved their endings.”

The same post is also quick to outline that this piece of DLC does not fundamentally change the endings of the game; instead the extended cut expands upon the endings of the game and outlines the fate of characters. Bioware has also been quick to say that this new expansion will require ‘multiple playthroughs’ to explore all the options, meaning the company has certainly taken fan criticism to heart and is making good on their promise of delivering more diverse climatic moments to ME3. As this was one of the reasons everybody moaned about the original ending, it’s particularly good to see that Bioware is finally making the choices of the player actually mean something in the Extended Cut.

The expansion pack will be just a smidge under 2gb, meaning you’ll need 1.9gb free on your system’s hard drive.

*SPOILERS* (highlight to read) You must play the game before the climatic mission at the Cerberus base to see the Epilogue/additional scenes. You’ve been warned.
