Hideo Kojima Confirms Metal Gear Solid 5

The man who transcends all things gaming has confirmed that he is “not yet finished with Solid Snake.”

Japanese game developer and gaming icon Hideo Kojima recently told French Magazine IG that Metal Gear Solid 5 is in fact underway and even hinted at the possible inclusion of the one and only Solid Snake.

In his interview with IG Magazine, Kojima touched on the fact that although work on MGS4 wrapped up in 2008, “…we were in a situation where we had to start planning for MGS5. So I started coming up with several ideas.” Some of Kojima’s ideas were revealed last year when he hinted at the possibility of the fifth entry taking place during the invasion of Normandy.

He elaborated on bit on that during his interview by saying, “I had several ideas for a game featuring The Boss and the Cobra Unit during the invasion of Normandy. I then handed these plans over to the team so they could take over and make the game.”

He went on to say, “I presented my ideas to the team during the summer of 2008. However, simply dropping MGS5 on the younger staff members was a bit heavy and there was resistance to doing it without my involvement.”

I don’t blame the man. After all, would a Metal Gear title really be Metal Gear without Hideo Kojima at the helm? I’d like to think not.

When asked about the possible inclusion of Solid Snake, Kojima replied, “We have not yet finished with Solid Snake, despite the fact that I wanted to let him die at the end of Guns of the Patriots.”

As for MGS5 itself, little is still known aside from the fact that we now know it exists in some form somewhere and that Hideo may or may not be directly in charge. Additionally we know, the following:

  • MGS5 will be built using the incredible Fox Engine (Check out these screens from last fall when the engine was first revealed.)
  • MGS5 will revolve more around infiltration, featuring characters who can interact with one another in a similar fashion to that seen in Deus Ex: Human Revolution.

Don’t expect this game to be ready for a holiday release date, or even any time soon for that matter. Just take solace in knowing that our precious Solid Snake may be making a return in the near future.
