Final Fantasy VII Coming To Steam?

A new website seems to hint at a (sort of) Final Fantasy VII remake coming to the PC.

Trademarked by Square Enix themselves, a brand new website proclaims that the much-loved Final Fantasy VII will be coming to Steam in the near future, boasting online profiles where you can compare progress with friends, cloud storage facilities and even – gasp- 36 achievements!

Unfortunately the site where it’s hosted has since been taken down, but – thanks to the wonderful Google – we can still (at time of writing) view the website’s cache. Packed to the seams with information about Final Fantasy VII, including the aforementioned features and a whole list of character profiles for Cloud, Tifa, Aerith, Sephiroth, Vincent, Yuffie, Cait Sith, Barrett, Cid and Red XIII, the site really does seem legit, particularly as it was recently registered by Square Enix and has Square Enix at the top of the site.

The initial price of the game is listed as £7.99/€9.99, which is an absolute steal for this classic title.

It may not be the full blown HD remake of Final Fantasy VII that everyone has been clamouring to see for ages now, but it’s certainly a step in the right direction. There’s always the chance of some sweet mods which ramp up the textures and stuff being released for this new PC version in the near future, so that may be as close as we get to a Final Fantasy VII remake any time soon!

Even though I’ve probably played through this title more times than is probably sensible and have lost about a week of my life doing so, the appeal of achievements has piqued my interest once more. Of course I hardly need another reason to play Final Fantasy VII – it is, after all, one of the best RPG games ever created and simply must be experienced by everyone before they kick the proverbial bucket.

You haven’t lived till you’ve kicked Sephiroth’s backside in the Northern Crater. Just saying.
