Pokémon Black and White 2: New Details

Pokémon Black and White 2: New Details

Gym leaders from the past, a new professor and more? That sounds a bit like Pokémon for sure.

Other game developers must absolutely hate the Pokémon series. It’s a franchise that has been around for over a decade and spans across countless numbers of games, but – and let’s be honest here – innovation isn’t really a strong point of the series. Sure, the graphics have got fancier, there’s some new moves, new Pokémon types and all that jazz, but the fact remains that this franchise has been exactly the same pretty much for the last god knows how long.

Thing is, even with this in mind, they’re still awesome.

When the existence of Pokémon Black and 2 was revealed for the first time, I’ll admit I was more than a bit excited. It was the first time an official sequel to one of the Pokémon games had been announced and, honestly, I was sort of convinced that this may well be the first time the series departed from the established formula and started some new stuff. Well they kind of are, but it still sounds extremely exactly the same as it’s always been really.

How do I know that? Well, new details have just emerged about the game in this month’s Coro Coro magazine over in Japan, highlighting some of the new experiences we can expect in Pokémon Black and White 2.

First and foremost, characters from the previous game are set to make a return. These include Alder, the wandering champion from Black and White, Cheren and Bianca (AKA your friendly chums who were a tiny bit useless). There’s a twist though, Cheren is now a normal-type gym leader, and Bianca is an assistant to the new professor who gives you your starter Pokémon.

Remember that really weird dude called N? Well he’s totally ran off somewhere and no-one really knows where he’s gone. I’m willing to bet my left buttock that he pops up again at some time though!

Other details include a new professor known as Burnett, Sacred Beast forms of Tornadus, Thundurus and Landorus and the inclusion of PokéWood, where you’ll actually be able to create movies for the first time in the Poké universe.

The game will also feature a Pokémon World Tournament, bringing together gym leaders from past games to battle once more. If you’ve wanted to go toe to toe with such classic names like Brock, Misty, Lance, Volkner, Blue, Steven, Janine, Blaine and Giovanni, now’s your chance!
