Possible Footage Of Halo 4 Multiplayer Beta Leaked…On VHS (Updated)

It’s also in a barn. With rap music. No, we don’t understand it either.

A video of what could be Halo 4 multiplayer beta has been leaked onto Youtube. The catch is, it’s actually on a video, as in one of those old-fashioned VHS tapes playing on a television being filmed on a shaky camera in a dark barn. There’s also some atrocious rap music playing over the top, so if you’re planning to play the video below, I recommend muting it first.

There’s no official confirmation that this is Halo 4 multiplayer, but certain details suggest that the footage is legit. The sprint speed is faster than previous Halo games, and there is some footage of what looks like the Promethean Vision armour ability and the rail gun. The sheer weirdness of the video and the fact that it hasn’t been pulled down suggests that it could be some kind of planned stunt, although when asked about the video 343’s David Ellis tweeted “Are you being serious in suggesting that thing was posted intentionally?”

Editor’s Note: An official Microsoft spokesperson has seen the video and recently told Kotaku that they “are conducting an internal beta test of Halo 4 which is a standard development practice for most video games. We have no plans for a public multiplayer beta for Halo 4.” That doesn’t offer up a whole lot in the way revealing whether or not this is truly Halo 4 we are seeing, but it also doesn’t flat out say that it isn’t Halo 4 either. I don’t know how many development studios conduct beta testing in a barn, so take this video with a grain of salt.

Here’s the video so you can judge for yourself. Just remember to spare your ears and mute the damn thing.

Update:

The video has since been taken down, adding further fuel to the controversy surrounding the whole issue. Could it have really been Halo 4 footage we were seeing and those lovely fellows in the video were threatened with a lawsuit? I guess we’ll never know. For those of you who didn’t get the pleasure of seeing the video… consider yourselves the lucky ones and cuddle with your ears tonight. -Eric P.
