First Assassin’s Creed 3 Gameplay Footage

The redcoats are coming! Get your stabbing hands ready!

For someone who has not really enjoyed any of the previous Assassin’s Creed games, I am beyond excited for this title. But rather than bore you with those details right now, I’m going to give you some space and let you indulge in the first ever gameplay footage of Assassin’s Creed 3.

Call it my love for all things American, but good lord that game looks amazing! I don’t just mean visually either. I’ve been overly critical of Assassin’s Creed games in the past, possibly even a bit unfairly so, but I may actually find myself going back and giving them a fair shake before this game drops just to get myself up to speed.

We’ve heard about the new assassin, Connor, and how his English/Native America heritage will help drive the narrative, but more exciting to me is the fact that it looks like a game is finally going to do justice to the American Revolution. As it stands, no game worth its weight in entertainment  has been released that does any justice to one of the most important times in American History. Now, I know not everyone lives in America and plenty of people probably couldn’t give a flying toss pot about this period in history (especially the British), but it really seems like a vastly untapped market. Especially considering the industry’s love for war games.

Perhaps the most exciting prospect seen within the trailer is Connor’s ability to interact with major historical figures. Specifically, who’s that gent with the cigar about halfway through and why is his coat so red? It best be from all the blood he spilled on it!

I do thoroughly enjoy this time period and that may be the largest piece factoring into my excitement for this title, but I sincerely hope they stay true to the events of the era and avoid taking any major liberties with history.

Although I can’t really speak to the core gameplay of the series, this entry – provided it isn’t a repeat of Brotherhood or Revelations – looks to be offering up enough of a change of pace to keep things fresh, specifically by tossing you out into the open wilderness among hundreds of invading redcoats who are ripe for the stabbing.

Surely E3 will offer up some more specifics, so we will keep you posted once we get our grubby mits on it in the beginning of June.
