Sony Is “Confident” That PS4 Will Beat Next Xbox To Marketplace

A report suggests that the next Playstation will be with us in the next 2 years.

According to VG247, Sony is looking to beat Microsoft to the post in the next generation console marathon. The Playstation 4 will apparently be on the marketplace before the Xbox 720 (or whatever it will end up being called) come Christmas 2013.

“Sony are completely in the belief that they have the jump on Microsoft this time”, the site’s source has said. “You should be watching the timing of next year’s E3 keynotes, and who’s going to go first.” Their sources have also claimed that all next-gen consoles will have arrived “by 2014”, and that “Developers working with publishers – like Ubisoft, for example – already know what’s going on. They’re already working on it.”

Sony’s new console may or may not end up being called Orbis. It may also ditch the PS3’s cell processor, feature technology that will make it impossible to play used games, and be externally powered by psychic antelope bred in a space colony on Jupiter. I made that last one up, but you would have a hard time knowing it considering the massive amount of next-gen rumour and speculation that’s been flying around recently.

One interesting rumour is the PS4/Orbis’ apparent compatibility with the PS Vita. Players may be able to use the Vita as a controller for the PS4, much like the Wii U and its controller/console counterpart. We are seeing more and more interconnectivity between gaming devices, and it wouldn’t surprise me if the next Playstation console ends up having a close relationship with Vita.
