Will Crysis 3 Come To The Wii U? “Fat Chance”, Says Crytek

The sci-fi shooter won’t be flaunting its good looks on Nintendo’s new console.

In an interview with Destructoid, Crytek’s creative development director Rasmus Højengaard said there was “not a fat chance” of Crysis 3 making its way to the Wii U.

“”I don’t think it’s possible”, he said. “Right now the launch platforms are PC, PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360. I don’t think it’s on the cards to do a Wii U version”.

It would seem however, that whatever the reasons for ruling out the Wii U, graphical fidelity isn’t one of them. “I would say that our game is less reliant on technical capabilities this time around because of the setting (…) You could remove a lot of the fancy render tech and still it’d look great”, he explained, before adding, “the experience of playing the game is not going to differ from platform to platform, only the fidelity of the visuals”.

To be honest, I don’t really see the point of playing the Crysis games on a console at all. The big draw for the Crysis games are the sumptuous visuals that only high end PCs can offer, and without them you’re left with nothing more than a decent but generally unremarkable shooter, as anyone who played Crysis 2 on the 360 or PS3 can surely testify. Crysis 3 could end up being greater than the sum of its turret sections, but the info released on the game so far doesn’t suggest any major gameplay revolutions.

Whatever platform you choose to play it on, Crysis 3 is set for release in spring 2013.
