Lollipop Chainsaw Release Date Confirmed

Lollipop Chainsaw Release Date Confirmed

Prepare yourself for action, zombies, and cheerleaders.

If ever there was a game that sounded like it was conceived by a horny male teenager, it’s Lollipop Chainsaw. The action game will see the player taking control of 18 year old cheerleader Juliet Starling, who fights zombies in a California high school. With a chainsaw.

The game is set to hit shelves on June 12th in America and June 15th in Europe on the Playstation 3 and Xbox 360. It will be directed by Suda 51, who also brought us Killer 7 and No More Heroes, so expect plenty of over the top violence, swearing and some random references to Mexican wrestling. Silent Hill composer Akira Yamaoka, who also worked with Suda 51 on Shadows of the Damned, will be composing the game’s soundtrack.

I can’t say I’m not looking forward to hacking apart the undead with an enormous chainsaw wielded by a scantily clad cheerleader. But what happened to the Suda 51 who came up with high concept, abstract games like Flower, Sun, and Rain, The Silver Case and Killer 7? Though it will surely be loads of fun, on paper Lollipop Chainsaw looks like an alarmingly safe check-list of gaming tropes, with its zombies, under dressed girls and oversized weapons. Hopefully Suda’s signature style will keep this from being another underwhelming flash in the pan like Shadows of the Damned.
