Updated: Pokémon White and Black 2 Announced

Although I’ve pretty much long since got over my obsession with collecting the trading cards, my obsession with the Pokémon games has no foreseeable end. Good job there doesn’t seem to be one then, eh?

Originally broken by IGN, the story told of an upcoming game for the DS (interestingly not the 3DS) which was to be in the Pokémon series of titles. Since then Junichi Masuda, the series producer of Pokémon, announced Pokémon Black and White 2 officially at the Pokémon Smash event this past weekend.

The official Japanese web page of Pokémon has also been updated to include some new info about the game, including some nifty animations and stuff. Unfortunately I can’t really read Japanese and translate blatantly refuses to work, so you can just look at the pretty pictures for now.

Although not confirmed, given that the games are called Pokémon Black and White 2, this may actually be the first time that a generation of Pokémon games gets a direct sequel. Generally the Pokémon games are released per ‘generation’ with two coloured titles followed by a later ‘extension’ coloured title, but these would appear to be entirely new, standalone games.

Both Pokémon Black and White 2 will be available in Japan this summer. No word has yet been given on US/European release dates, but we’ll be sure to keep you updated if there’s anything released.

Update:

Nintendo of America has confirmed that the game will release in fall of this year, while European’s will also get the game sometime this Autumn.
