PS4 and New Xbox To Be Revealed At E3 2012?

Secrecy and the videogame industry go hand in hand. There’s always something waiting to be revealed and, according to MCV, that something could be both the PS4 and the next generation Xbox come E3 2012.

Originally reported by MCV, the well respected news outlet is claiming that a source has told them all about the planned E3 reveals, with both Sony and Microsoft allegedly gearing up to reveal their consoles as a countermeasure to the Wii U locking in launch details. “Obviously we can’t reveal our sources.”  said Ben Parfitt, MCV Online Editor via Twitter, “But you have my personal word on this – the source is exemplary, 100% concrete, ultra high level.”

Michael French, also of MCV then told IGN: “This is very credible. Even if we don’t see the hardware itself, or know a price or date, key publishers and developers are expecting some nod towards what direction PS4 will take at E3 this year. Sony isn’t stupid – it knows that if Microsoft is planning to also say something about its next console, it can’t be left behind.”

Tongues have been wagging about Sony’s and Microsoft’s next move ever since E3 last year, where Nintendo revealed to the world the Wii U for the first time, complete with not much else to go on apart from a few technical demonstrations. Interestingly, the imminent announcement of the PS4 goes completely against Sony’s alleged 10 year plan for the Playstation 3; it could be that due to pressure from other companies releasing next-gen systems, Sony has had to step up their game and begin preparing for the Playstation 4’s release.

The Xbox 360’s successor meanwhile has been rumoured to have integrated Kinect and – most recently – rumoured to contain DVR capabilities, allowing you to capture video.

So in summary, this year’s E3 in June should be absolutely huge. PS4. Next Xbox. Wii U. Let the showdown commence.
