South Park RPG: The Details

South Park RPG: The Details

You will respect their authoritah! Cartman, Stan, Kyle, Kenny and the rest of Southpark’s ragtag crew of characters are soon to star in their own RPG, and here’s the details about it.

The game itself is being developed by Obsidian, who you may recognise as being the creative minds behind Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic and – more recently – Fallout: New Vegas. It is to be fully licensed RPG and not just some cheap cash-in on the South Park franchise and will allegedly star you as the ‘new kid’ in town, forced to deal with South Park’s relentlessly insane citizens and generally ridiculous happenings.

The project has come about because the creators of South Park – Trey Parker and Matt Stone- contacted Obsidian about doing the game.  The title will also use the trademark visual style of South Park, as they felt that, without it, the game simply wouldn’t be the South Park we all know and love. The title will also be a fully 2D adventure.

The lead character, your ‘new kid’, will have access to five unique classes, and will be a mute at the request of Matt and Trey. The classes are allegedly wizard, paladin, adventurer, rogue and a fifth class made up entirely by Cartman (which sounds very intriguing).  See, the game begins with you and the South Park kids playing a live-action role playing game, which rapidly evolves into a real-life, epic adventure.

The menu system within the game will be used through your smartphone, offering a social network-esque experience where it details your friends, and your standing with the different factions of South Park.  Combat will be turn based, similar to Paper Mario, and there’s a whole load of ranged and melee weapons, as well as a summons feature.

In addition there’s also said to be hundreds of collectibles, including ‘Chinpokemon’ dolls which you may remember from an earlier episode. If there’s one thing for sure, this title will no doubt be brimming with madcap humour and South Park style, as the voices and script are being provided by Matt and Trey themselves.

I’m actually quite excited for this now.  GameInformer also has an interview with Feargus Urquhart of Obsidian, should you care to know more about the process surrounding the game. In the meantime, let us know what you think of South Park RPG in the comments.

It’s easyyyy……mmmkay.
