So Maybe Metal Gear 5 Isn’t Coming Out…

Last week excitement levels were off the charts when we heard that MGS 5 was confirmed and Kojima was going to be producing it but now we find out that may not exactly be true…

If you managed to catch a glimpse of last week’s Metal Gear 5 Confirmed! article I was pretty ecstatic. A quote from the Official Playstation Magazine UK claiming that Kojima has commited to another Metal Gear?! Almost too good to be true… Turns out it was.

OPM UK finally released a more complete version of that interview in which the alleged Metal Gear 5 claims were clarified, and essentially shot down.

“I think we’ll probably have to make it at some point, but what that will be, we have no idea”. Once again, though, Kojima is downplaying his involvement. “As far as my involvement in the project is concerned, [it] probably won’t be as much as it was with MGS1 – maybe I can do just one stage! For MGS1 I made the maps myself, laid out the enemy routes myself, did everything hands-on – that level I can’t do again.”

What that translates into is basically nothing. There are no plans currently laid down to make another Metal Gear game, Kojima just mentioned in an off-hand manner that there might, at some point in the future, be said plans. The information released by OMP was extremely misleading and the fact they they issued zero clarification just makes me think they were selling smoke and trying to drive up traffic. While they didn’t exactly lie to our faces, statements like “Kojima confirms plans for MGS 5” aren’t exactly full-truths either.
