SteelSeries Raffles Off 20 Gaming Setups

SteelSeries Raffles Off 20 Gaming Setups

Nobody actually enters a raffle expecting to win, especially when the prize is something you really, really want. Well, for the first time ever, I won.

SteelSeries, a high-end video game peripheral manufacturer, offered up the deal of a lifetime for those who attended this past weekend’s Devastation tournament in Phoenix. Most raffles require the purchase of tickets and all it takes is for one person with just a bit too much money on their hands to drop an exorbitant amount of cash and throw the odds way off. Fortunately, Steel Series is a bit more generous than that.

SteelSeries donated a total of 20 complete keyboard, mouse, and headset setups for the League of Legends tournament and rather than waste the time and energy to pack them all back up, they decided to just give them away. The raffle required only one thing: that you walk by the booth and take 10 seconds to write your name and phone number down on a sheet of paper. I figured ‘Hey, why not?’ and tossed my name down on the list completely expecting not to get a call.

Then, while enjoying a nostalgic round of Goldeneye on the N64 with the Focus Fire crew, my phone popped up with an exciting new number. It was none other than the SteelSeries lady calling to tell me when I could pick up my gear.

I’ll be the first to admit that I am more than familiar with my fair share of cheap wireless keyboards and mice, so knowing this whole setup is a big step for me and is taking quite a bit of getting used to.

The Merc Stealth keyboard is absolutely massive. The thing weighs about a metric ton and takes up the lion’s share of my keyboard drawer, but the illuminated lights make my nocturnal tendencies a bit more energy friendly.

The Ikari Optical mouse on the other hand is by and far the most impressive mouse I have ever owned. This thing is a luxury cruise ship compared to the $15 dollar mico-wireless mice I’ve been suffering with for years.

The Siberia V2 headset is about as straightforward as it gets. You plug it in, you listen to music/voices with incredible clarity and when you feel the urge to talk, you pull the mic out of it’s secretive hiding spot in the left earpiece.

For a completely free raffle, I couldn’t ask for anything better. These products are built to take a beating and that they will surely do. But in a household with cats who love to chew on cords, I foresee some potential issues, especially in a world where cords of becoming particularly sparse.
