Final Build of Wii U Coming E3 2012

Final Build of Wii U Coming E3 2012

I’m sure there’s a bad joke about a siren approaching somewhere in here (Wii U – get it), but terrible puns aside, Nintendo has revealed they plan to showcase the final build of the Wii U at next year’s E3.

Satoru Iwata, Grand President of all things Nintendo, had the following to say at in a statement about Nintendo’s financial woes earlier this week: “We would like to show the final format of the Wii U at the E3 show next year,” he said. ” As we learned a bitter lesson with the launch of the Nintendo 3DS, we are trying to take every possible measure so that the Wii U will have a successful launch.”

As you probably already know, the Wii U was showcased at this year’s E3, but didn’t have any concrete information, specs or anything much whatsoever to tell us. All we got was basically a Zelda tech demo, a name, and a small white box that looked like a bulkier Wii. This year, however, I fully expect Nintendo to reveal something that not only looks completely different, but also is brimming with new features we haven’t even heard about yet.

The big N already promised better third-party support for the Wii U upon the announcement earlier this year, as third-party, AAA interest in the Wii has been small at best, thus annoying a significant part of the console market. Since Iwata also promised that they’re trying their hardest to ensure that the Wii U’s launch is much better than the 3DS’, they’re really going to have to step up their game and have some truly amazing launch titles that take full advantage of the Wii U’s new hardware.

I’m also going to go out on a limb and predict Nintendo will announce the Wii U for holiday 2012 release – if it doesn’t happen, be sure to write me an angry email with lots of exclamation marks come next year’s E3.
