Borderlands 2 Officially Set for 2012

It should come as no surprise that a sequel is being planned to a game that was a bit of a smash-hit, but according to Eurogamer, the sequel to multiplayer and slightly mad shooter Borderlands should be seeing the light of day come 2012.

Citing an unamed source claiming to be ‘close to the game’ Eurogamer goes on to state that the game will release on Xbox 360, PS3 and PC next year, and that an official announcement from THQ should be coming along very shortly.

Of course, like all rumours, take this with a pinch of salt until we receive totally official confirmation of the title. However, given how well received the first game in the franchise was, it almost seems inevitable that a sequel should be planned; in fact, they’d be positively mad not to make one.

Borderlands, if you’re not familiar with the game, is a single-player or multiplayer RPG/shooter hybrid that takes place in a large, open-world and totally non-linear environment. It also boasts the largest collection of different guns I’ve ever seen in a videogame – there’s so much variation and each and every playthrough will probably find you netting a different set of weapons each time.

We’ll be sure to tell you all about official confirmation of Borderlands 2 should THQ decide to officially announce it.

Update: THQ has announced the game officialy via a press release today after this article’s publication, confirming that the title will indeed be released after April 1st, 2012 at some point.
