Sony FTW: Impressions from Sony’s E3 Conference
Sony scores a homerun with the greatness that was their E3 Press Conference, even without Usher.
After watching the Sony press conference at E3 this evening, I was completely blown away by the sheer epicness of what they brought to the table. From the new scenes of Assassin’s Creed Liberation and Assassin’s Creed 3 to the raw carnage in God of War Ascension, Sony made sure fans will have a lot to talk about.
First off, and I know I am probably in the minority here; I am as giddy as a schoolgirl about the Wonderbook. As someone who has a strong interest in digital technology in education, I cannot wait to discover the educational possibilities that are associated with this device. As a Potter fan, I cannot wait to get my hands on the Book of Spells! The game itself looks like it will provide fans the opportunity to fully immerse themselves within the Hogwarts world. The one thing I am a bit worried about is how tedious it may be, as Move controllers are not always accurate. However, if it is anything like the demo we should not have a problem. Unfortunately, I feel as though Sony spent way too long demonstrating the Wonderbook as even I was getting a bit bored by the end.
For those that enjoy multiplayer titles, Sony has you covered with their new line-up. Sony set the stage by showcasing it’s new title All Stars Battle Royale which is not only available for PS Vita, but is cross-compatible with PS3. That means matches can occur between you and your friends regardless of what device you are using. All Stars provides gamers with a more mature version of Super Smash Bros., which seems to require more strategy and advanced combos. At E3 tonight, Sony announced that in addition to their already spectacular line up of Sly Cooper, Kratos, Sweet Tooth, Colonel Radec, Parappa, and Fat Princess, they will be adding fan favourites Nathan Drake and Big Daddy.
I was really holding my breath at the end of the conference waiting to see if they were going to elaborate on The Last of Us. Just when I think I am over zombies… BOOM! This game definitely has a feeling of familiarity that Naughty Dog can provide, which is something that I am a bit worried about for this title. The sequences shown at E3 create a very intense and exciting atmosphere for this game. I just hope that they are able to provide a bit of a fresh perspective to a genre that has had a lot of attention lately.
Perhaps what I am most excited about from the conference was the introduction of Beyond: Two Souls by the individuals responsible for the ever successful Heavy Rain. Beyond expands on the almost perfect graphics and artistic skill presented in Heavy Rain and features a mysterious Jody (Jodi, Jodie) Homes who is brought to life by the stunning Ellen Page. The game promises an incredible storyline that will provide insight to the cryptic and supernatural Homes.
Take notes, this is how you run an E3 press conference! What were your favourite parts?
